Gearing up for the Halloween Season
/Something you’ll quickly learn about my photography style is that I. Love. Drama. And nothing pairs better with drama than the spooky season.
As the leaves change colour and the air gets crisp, nothing is cozier than autumn. Surrounded by earthy colours and knit blankets, how can you not be instantly engulfed in a wave of comfort during the fall season? Alongside the calming feeling, there is a somewhat stark contrast that lurks through the autumn air. The variance of cozy autumn feels to being nervous in your surroundings once night pours over you is the best part of it all. Fright, vampires, witches. Having sweaty palms as to what’s around the corner after watching all three conjuring movies. The contrast from cozy to creepy is something that makes this time of year so invigorating.
Two things that couldn’t mix more perfectly are Halloween and dark, melodramatic vibes for photography. After all, Halloween is the epitome of dark and melodramatic. As stated earlier, I love drama. There’s something so fun and rewarding about telling a dramatic story in ways you wouldn’t originally think. A dark and dramatic engagement session that tells the story of two lovers that have finally met. The magnetic dark explosion of chemistry between two people during a wedding creatives session. All the feels, just because there’s a little shadow here, and a little leg pop there. Drama equals a story that I can never get tired of telling.
Last October I received a request from a client. They wanted a spooky dramatic Halloween-styled shoot and all I could remember thinking was…hell yeah. Connie reached out to me in search of an eerie and hair-raising shoot, and the photos that came of this were nothing short of spine-chilling and spooky.
Sometimes haunting feelings can come when you least expect them.
I ran into this when I recently had my hand at A.I. art. From skeletons to cabins in the woods, what came of this was nothing short of Halloween-ish. The spooky textures and images of fire and bone leave you with feelings of darkness and drama. You could watch each photo and see something new every minute like a film. Each piece has so much character and details each time you see the wisps and shadows of the photo, you will perceive it in a different light.
With Halloween approaching as fast as the leaves are fading, it’s time to fully engulf everything chilling. Eat all the candy, drink all the hot chocolate, and book your dark and dramatic photo session. (See what I did there? Shameless self-promo.)
